Working from home is often favoured by people, after all, what’s not to love? A commute of fifteen seconds, autonomy to work on your own schedule and instant access to everything you need with the companies you work for via your laptop. Changes in technology are making it far easier to work from home these days, and companies are retaining their employees better simply by allowing them to work outside the office. It’s a very attractive offering, when an employer allows a new recruit to work from a home office instead of the main building in the city.

Everyone loves the idea of working from home, but you can find yourself in a position whereby you are stuck with faulty equipment and worry about having to fork out to replace it yourself. If you work directly for a company and you practice outside the office, they are obliged to replace equipment. However, if you are self-employed and working for yourself, replacing technology and equipment is all on you. This can get costly if you haven’t protected yourself, but hopefully you have thought about the insurance you may need ahead of time. Working independently is just a part of the fun of being at home, but you do have to be vigilant about protecting yourself.

When you work away from an office, you need to be aware of the impact it can have on your insurance at home. There are some landlords (if you are renting) who are against running a business from home or practicing business activity at home. You should research whether you fall into that category before you start working as self-employed. Sometimes, your rental policy can stipulate no business activity can happen on the premises. You also need to add a business policy to your home insurance so that you are covered for equipment in the event of fire or flood.

The contents that you have for your business activity, such as computers, printers and tablets need to be protected so that you can claim when you need help from Mobile Computer Repair.
